Hastings Premium Filters Honored by Federated Auto Parts

Hastings Premium Filters recently received Vendor of the Year for Order Fill from Federated Auto Parts. The award was presented at the Federated national meeting held April 30 – May 2 at the Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak in Phoenix, AZ.

The Vendor of the Year – Order Fill award was awarded based on voting by the Federated members and is presented to the vendor which has provided the highest percent of order fill to the members. Hastings has earned this honor four of the past seven years. Hastings was also recognized for its support of Federated's National Car Care Program.

Phil Kommers, Hastings Vice President Aftermarket Sales, along with Hastings Regional Sales Managers Tom Feery, Greg Hopkins, Terry Makinster and Jim Preller, attended the Federated meeting.

"It is indeed an honor to be recognized by the members of Federated as a vendor of the year," said Phil Kommers, Hastings Vice President Aftermarket Sales. "Federated members are great partners, and we appreciate being recognized as a key supplier."

In addition to being on hand for the awards ceremony on May 1st, the Hastings sales team met with individual Federated members during one-on-one meetings to discuss the Hastings brand.

Federated Auto Parts, which is headquartered in Staunton, Virginia, is one of the largest auto parts distributor marketing groups in North America.

Hastings Premium Filters Plans Expansion

Hastings Premium Filters' manufacturing operations continue to grow in its Kearney, NE, Gothenburg, NE, and Yankton, SD, facilities.

With this growth comes the need for additional space at its Kearney, NE headquarters location. Hastings plans a Spring 2013 groundbreaking for a new 400,000 square foot Distribution Center which will be located to the east of its Kearney facility. Distribution operations in the current 110,000 sq. ft. distribution center, built in 1998, have exceeded capacity, spurring the need for additional space.

"The primary use of the expansion will be to improve distribution operations, consolidate off-site rental space and reorganize the current facility to improve manufacturing operations," said Sam Ferrise, President of Hastings.

"This is a very large undertaking and represents a substantial, $40 million investment for Hastings. It's indicative of our continued commitment to the Kearney area, and should have a significant economic impact for some time to come," said Ferrise. "Hastings has continued to grow, driving the need for this expansion."

The expansion will create a construction zone adjacent to and east of Hastings Filters, and will utilize the land made available as a result of the 2008 relocation of Airport Road. With the expansion, Hastings' corporate headquarters will encompass nearly one million square feet.

"The City of Kearney, along with Buffalo County, has been very supportive of our plans to expand, and we deeply appreciate their support," said Dan Schulte, Hastings' Vice President of Operations. "Every effort will be made to minimize disturbance to traffic patterns and access during the construction process."

The project has received corporate approval from Hastings Filters' parent company, CLARCOR, Inc., as well as the approval of CLARCOR's Board of Directors.
